Today in History, September 11, 1850 – “The Swedish Nightingale”, Jenny Lind, debuted at the Castle Garden Theater in New York City, after having swept Europe with her soprano talent. Think of your favorite pop star, and Ms. Lind was much better in the mid nineteenth century. This appearance initiated a 93 stop tour of the United States arranged by P.T. Barnum.
